What do all the triumphant paradigms in technology have in common? They automate. They reduce the amount of human effort involved in realizing our goals. As Alfred Whitehead posited: civilization advances by extending the number of important operations which we can perform without thinking about them.

In this talk, Guillermo will talk about how this simple paradigm allowed us to invent some of the most successful open-source projects. More importantly, we'll highlight some examples of how you can leverage them to take your ideas and businesses to the next level.

Before starting ▲ZEIT in November 2015, Guillermo was the CTO and co-founder of LearnBoost and Cloudup, acquired by Automattic in 2013. He's the creator of several popular Node.JS open source libraries like socket.io, mongoose and slackin. Prior to Node.JS, he was a core developer of the MooTools frontend toolkit.
